In the early '90s, Marnie spent a few years singing original folk rock in a Philadelphia area-based duo called, "The Mudpuppies." She and Jonathan MacCornack played everywhere from The Garden State Fair, Jon & Peter's in New Hope, PA, and Coffee Talk in Stone Harbor, NJ. After collaborating with the Philadelphia band, "Christopher's Pocket," Marnie began sitting in with a lot of up-and-coming Philly groups, including a talented young University of Penn student, John Stevens, aka Grammy-winner, John Legend.
Marnie moved to Cape May County in 1998, and during a gig with her then musical partner and piano goddess, Mindy Kahn, Nate joined the girls on stage for a few songs. Nate had graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied business and guitar and played the Boston music scene. Marnie and Nate started collaborating and have been a duo ever since.
In 2011, their band, SOULSHINE was born. "It's the band we've been dreaming of for years," says Marnie, "Amazing players (Frank Griser on drums, Ray Hemphill on bass and Joe Skladanek on keys), and we get to play the music of our heroes - The Who,The Allman Bros, The Stones, Steely Dan, Janis, Blondie, Ronnie Spector, and many more. So much fun!"
Not only is Marnie a wonderful singer, but she has a grace about her. She makes the audience feel comfortable and at home....like they were guests in her house.Ernie Trionfo Southern New Jersey guitar legend (Patty Blee, The Snake Brothers)
The first thing that you notice when you hear Marnie & Nate perform is the warm, raw and sultry sound of Marnie's voice. Their music is easy to listen to and at the same time never "background music" with a nice mix of ballads and songs that make you want to tap your foot. The pair really seem to enjoy just losing themselves in the music they make and that makes us enjoy them all the more.Myra Vassian Congress Hall Hotel Entertainment Director and NYC Vocal Coach
From the very beginning, Marnie made selecting our wedding music a pleasure. From working with the church and priest, to guiding us in choosing music that would make us happy, to setting the tone for our reception during the cocktail hour, the overall experience could not have been better. Our day would not have been the same without them! Thank you Marnie and Nate!!Julie and Travis King Married May '11, Stone Harbor, NJ
Marnie and Nate were one of the most memorable parts of our Big Night. Their music selection and personality were exactly what we were looking for with a great mix and their energy made everyone have a blast. Our wedding would not have been the same without them! We still get compliments on how great they were and how much fun everyone had. Thanks Marnie and Nate!!!Jake & Samantha Mehl Married October '08, Stone Harbor Yacht Club
